Composing Immersive Environments is a three day masterclass designed to introduce artists and composers to various concepts and practices used to construct spatial sound works. The masterclass will comprise workshops in Acoustics and Architecture; Recording and Playback; Cinema Sound; Electroacoustic Diffusion; Installation Art; and Activation and Spatial Choreography. The series of workshops will be supplemented by technical demonstrations and compositional analysis drawn from sound art, soundscape composition, electroacoustic music and site-determined performance.
Dr Philip Samartzis is a sound artist, academic and curator who has performed and exhibited widely. Outcomes of his work have been presented at The Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art, Paris, The South African National Museum, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art are to name a few. He has undertaken fieldwork in remote regions such as Davis Station in Eastern Antarctica, Macquarie Island and more recently has completed a three-year study of indigenous communities in The Kimberley
Bogong Centre for Sound Culture is situated within the Victorian Alps in North East Victoria. The BCSC supports cultural initiatives investigating the history and ecology of the Australian Alps.
