Though we cannot know what the theatre of tomorrow will be or need, DasArts exists to assist those who will make it discover their own dream, and strengthen the sense of purpose supporting that vision. The artist is not an island; everything has repercussions. DasArts represents a ‘safe haven’, a unique laboratory for development, and a chance to deepen our awareness of the world around us and what’s going on in it. Teaching is conducted in ten-week blocks, during which no more than 12 students gather twice a year to engage in a process of discovery that embraces risk, uncertainty and surprise, that goes beyond the academy, that’s as much about the art of teaching as about the teaching of art. Multidisciplinary from the word go, in recent years DasArts has become more so. The broad range of theatre/performing arts represented by its global network of experienced professionals are supplemented with topics from economics to Net culture. Responsibility will continue to be placed on the students to experience and discover for themselves. They may earn a postgraduate diploma in the performing arts, but this is not the focus of the student’s development; only when they finish the program will their real work begin.
