Apoptosis: induced cell death as an innovative art-science collaborative project.
The focus of this experimental and innovative project was the creation of a digital movie for inclusion in other related artworks/installations. Fibroblast cells from the epidermis of the artistsÂ’ forearm were cultured and time-lapse microscope images were taken during induced cell death. The conceptual processes underlying the visual presentations struck a balance between challenging ideas and relevance to the individual. Through the exploration and visualisation of the death of a cell the artist continued to confront notions of mortality and decay.
