Xeno_biotic series

Xeno_biotic is a term drawn from genetic engineering lingua franca and first used by the artist to describe new practice based creative interpretations of biotechnology processes specifically using living materials. The Xeno_biotic project consisted of research and practice undertaken in the research microbiology laboratory of Dr Peter Lewis at The University of Newcastle Transgenic e-coli organisms modified with green fluorescent and red fluorescent protein have been cultivated and used as living drawing and sculpting media as 3D bioluminescent light emitting forms or as diminutive frozen bioluminescent green or red light emitting sculptures resembling tiny popsicles on tooth picks.
Materials include; gmos uv light acrylic ready-mades hardware polystyrene Petrie dishes electric cables and electrical fittings reflections nutrient agar digital projections stroboscope lighting.
