The Xeno_genic series is an ongoing project consisting of research and practice continuing on from the work undertaken by the artist previously in the research microbiology laboratory of Dr Peter Lewis at The University of Newcastle. The term "Xeno_genic" was invented by the artist in 2003 to describe new media art made from biologically compatible materials derived specifically from inanimate material. These are developed using encryption systems for biological comaptibility within living gmo hosts. Synthetic maps of bacterial plasmids have been created sourced from an eclectic array of inanimate banal forms such as handguns and aircraft.
